To keep your mouth clean and free of bacteria, you need to practice good oral hygiene on a daily basis that will result in a mouth, which looks good and smells healthy. This means that the teeth will be free of debris; the gums will be healthy and pink and will not hurt or bleed when you brush and you won’t suffer from bad breath.
However, the three main components of an oral hygiene which can never be ignored include:
Brushing
You should place your toothbrush at a 45 degree angle against the gums and move it back and forth for at least 4 minutes to achieve the optimum cleaning results. You need to brush the inner and outer tooth surfaces along with the chewing tooth surfaces of the teeth. Moreover, always remember to brush your tongue as well to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.
Flossing
To floss, you will need at least 18 inches of floss and wrap it around the middle fingers of each hand. You then need to gently slide it into the space between the gum and the tooth to remove debris from those places where the toothbrush can’t reach. Gently rub the side of the tooth with the floss moving it away from the gum with up and down motions. Repeat this on the rest of your teeth
Mouth Rinse/ Mouth Wash
A mouth rinse or wash, in addition to brushing and flossing your teeth daily, helps in increasing the cleanliness and hygiene of your mouth. Mouth washes with antimicrobial reduce bacteria and plaque activity, decreasing the growth of gingivitis and gum disease. While the fluorides present in the mouthwash help reduce and prevent tooth decay.
It is vital to maintain good oral health, as it not only allows you to look good but also feel good about yourself. It makes it possible for you to eat and speak properly and is crucial for your overall well being.
